Story

AM/AS series

Franco Albini was a central figure in Milanese rationalism. The AM/AS lighting series of 1969 was drawn with his long-time partner Franca Helg, together with Antonio Piva and Marco Albini.

The system is two parts: a straight or curved rod in chrome or black chrome, and a semicircular diffuser in hand-blown opaline glass. Nothing conceals the join between them.

The same pair of elements makes table lamps, pendants and large chandeliers depending on how many are combined and at what scale — closer to a construction kit than to a range of separate products.

Left, the AS43C — three of the same diffuser on one curved rod. Right, a single AM4C. Same two parts, different count.

About Nemo Lighting

Founded in Milan in 1993, Nemo reissues lamps by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand alongside work by living designers.

Franco Cassina founded Nemo in Milan in 1993. Part of the collection is archive work — lamps by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini, Vico Magistretti and Kazuhide Takahama, kept in production rather than left to history.

The rest comes from designers working now, among them Mario Bellini, Álvaro Siza, Jean Nouvel and Arihiro Miyake. The company is Italian and is owned by Federico Palazzari.
