Story

Portofino

Portofino is a portable, rechargeable table lamp — slim, sleek and light enough to be carried from one room to the next.

Valerio Sommella arrived at it by redefining the product architecture rather than restyling a lamp: the components were redistributed and optimised for volume and efficiency, which is what makes a cordless fitting this thin possible at all.

The body is aluminium. The base comes in aluminium, or in marble in several finishes.

Designer

Designed by Valerio Sommella

Italian · studio founded 2009

Born in Milan, where he graduated in Design at Politecnico Milano, Valerio Sommella started his career working for major design studios between Milan and Amsterdam before founding his own studio in 2009. He considers each project as an opportunity to express his idea of design, by exploring the language of objects through formal, material and technological research.

About Nemo Lighting

Founded in Milan in 1993, Nemo reissues lamps by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand alongside work by living designers.

Franco Cassina founded Nemo in Milan in 1993. Part of the collection is archive work — lamps by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini, Vico Magistretti and Kazuhide Takahama, kept in production rather than left to history.

The rest comes from designers working now, among them Mario Bellini, Álvaro Siza, Jean Nouvel and Arihiro Miyake. The company is Italian and is owned by Federico Palazzari.
