Story

Bird

Bird rests on the edge of a surface rather than standing on it.

The body oscillates and moves when touched but always returns to horizontal, held there by a vertical brass counterweight. Bernhard Osann calls it a synthesis of ambition, design awareness and engineering, which is a fair description of a lamp that balances on a table edge and stays put.

The light source sits inside the arm and rotates around its own axis, so the same fitting gives direct and indirect light. The head turns through 345°.

German · Untitled, Nemo

Bernhard Osann is a German designer working on furniture and lighting.

Untitled began from the look of articulated arms — the counterweighted, jointed desk lamp — and then removed almost all of it. What remains is a thin line that bends, with the flexibility carried by the material rather than by a mechanism.

The result reads more as a drawn line than as a fixture, which is where the name comes from.

About Nemo Lighting

Founded in Milan in 1993, Nemo reissues lamps by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand alongside work by living designers.

Franco Cassina founded Nemo in Milan in 1993. Part of the collection is archive work — lamps by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini, Vico Magistretti and Kazuhide Takahama, kept in production rather than left to history.

The rest comes from designers working now, among them Mario Bellini, Álvaro Siza, Jean Nouvel and Arihiro Miyake. The company is Italian and is owned by Federico Palazzari.
