This lamp design was developed by a group of architects from the Swedish functionalist movement, which emerged at the same time as the Bauhaus era. A similar lamp was produced by Gispen in the Netherlands at the same time – once again, a hemisphere was placed loosely on the glass as a reflector.
The polished aluminium cap stays on the glass sphere through friction alone. The reflector can be adjusted at any time without causing glare. This table lamp has retained its practicality throughout the years thanks to its design, which has been reduced to the simplest spherical and cylindrical shapes that are necessary to enable its functions.

In the catalog from the years 1928/1929 of the Schwintzer & Gräfe company, various lights designed by Marianne Brandt are exactly described, dimensioned and illustrated. These lights were already mass-produced at that time. Due to the precise information, we were able to restore some of these lights true to the original.

This hanging lamp, consisting of a chrome-plated or polished brass tube with an opal ball, was created by an unknown designer in 1900. It was one of the first lighting fixture designs developed for electric light bulbs. It has enriched the interior designs of many architects, such as Peter Behrens, Adolf Loos and Josef Hoffmann. The Bauhaus had similar designs by Marianne Brandt and Hans Przyrembel. This lamp was manufactured in large numbers in the 1920s and 30s, when it was mainly used in schools and offices.
They are available in five sizes: with 200mm, 250mm, 300mm, 350mm and 400mm large opal balls. The chrome-plated or polished brass tube is 1m long, but can easily be shortened by sawing off, because the hanger holds the rod without thread.
