Story

Trivets

The colourful trivets might be the most recognisable image Muller Van Severen have made.

The duo took a plain kitchen tool and put it against the wall, which turns a trivet into something closer to a drawing — the same move they make with the hanging lamps, where a cable becomes a line.

They come as a set, in the colours that run through the rest of their work.

Belgian · founded 2011

Muller Van Severen was founded in 2011 by Belgian artist duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen. The couple have always been on an inspired quest for sculpturally interesting furniture objects, and their work sits somewhere between design and art, drawing on their passion for architecture and materials. They have won countless awards and collaborated with prestigious international museums and galleries.

A shared love of colour and materials is often the inspiration behind many of Muller Van Severen’s designs. The designer duo is constantly seeking new ways to present the natural beauty of the materials they use, striving to give the materials their own distinct presence.

About Valerie Objects

A Belgian design label, valerie_objects asks designers like Muller Van Severen to give daily objects their beauty back.

Axel Van Den Bossche, who founded Serax, and Veerle Wenes of the design gallery Valerie Traan started valerie_objects in Belgium. The designers Muller Van Severen were the first to sign with the label.

Maarten Baas, Studio Wieki Somers and big-game have followed, each chosen for a signature you can recognise whether they make a table or a teapot. Everything is drawn for daily use.
