Made to order — about 8–12 weeks

This piece is produced to order by the maker. Production usually takes about 8–12 weeks, after which we despatch it from London.

This is one of the longer lead times we carry. Because the piece is built for you, cancellation is limited once production has started on a configuration you specified. Please check the timing before you order — and ask us if the date matters.

Story

Half Moon & Gallery Shelf

One perfect circle and two simple folds. The Half Moon Shelf holds keys, a coffee cup or a book, and the studio's own question about it is the right one: does it need to be more complicated than that?

It is powder-coated steel, in five finishes and two sizes, each keeping the same circular form. Two screws and it is on the wall.

The same instinct runs through the Gallery and Magazine shelves — the fold does the work that a bracket would otherwise do, and stays visible while doing it.

Left, one circle cut and folded, in five finishes. Right, the same shelf on a wall holding keys. Two screws and it is up.

Danish · MOEBE, founded 2014

MOEBE was formed in Copenhagen in 2014 by architects Martin de Neergaard Christensen and Nicholas Oldroyd together with cabinetmaker Anders Thams. The three work from a studio workshop on the island of Amager.

The split between architecture and joinery shapes what they make. Each piece is built around a single visible principle of construction — tension, friction, a wedge — instead of hidden hardware, so the way an object holds itself together is the thing you notice first.

Much of the range can be assembled and taken apart by hand without tools. The studio frames this as doing more with less, and the reduction is structural rather than stylistic.

About MOEBE

A Copenhagen studio formed in 2014 by two architects and a cabinetmaker, built on doing more with less.

The architects Martin de Neergard Christensen and Nicholas Oldroyd and the cabinetmaker Anders Thams formed MOEBE in 2014. Everything is developed in their studio workshop on the island of Amager in Copenhagen.

Each design starts by asking what the core function is and what can be taken away. Materials, details and construction all have to earn their place: nothing left unthought, nothing added without meaning.
