Wilhelm Wagenfeld
Wilhelm Wagenfeld was a student in the Bauhaus metal workshop in Weimar when László Moholy-Nagy, the workshop's form master, set him the exercise of making a table lamp from glass and metal. The result, finished in 1924, became the object most people picture when they hear the word Bauhaus.
He went on to a long career in industrial design, working in glass and ceramics for mass production rather than for exhibition. The instinct stayed the same throughout: hemisphere, cylinder, circular base, and nothing that is not doing work.
Tecnolumen is the only manufacturer licensed to make the re-editions, a licence Wagenfeld granted personally to the company's founder. The catalogue runs from the WG 24 through the WA and WG table lamps to the WNL 30 multi-purpose lamp and the WSTL 30 floor lamp of 1930.
