Verner Panton
Verner Panton was a Danish architect and designer, and the least Danish-looking of his generation — where his contemporaries worked in wood and restraint, he worked in plastic, steel wire and saturated colour.
He trained as an architect in Copenhagen and worked briefly for Arne Jacobsen before setting up on his own in the 1950s, after which he spent most of his career outside Denmark.
The wire pieces are his most reproducible idea: a grid of steel rod that becomes a cube, a shelf or a table depending on how it is stacked, with the structure entirely visible.
